The Backstage

With over 12 years of experience in developing and optimizing jewelry ecommerce websites,we’ve helped numerous brands elevate their online presence and boost sales performance. Since many of these projects are protected by NDAs, we created a concept that demonstrates our approach to building jewelry stores. It showcases our proven design and development practices that consistently deliver strong results for our clients.
This case focuses on Shopify jewelry website design and development. The client is a luxury jewelry brand selling exclusive collections that blend elegance with personal storytelling.

The Challenge

The client is a jewelry manufacturer who previously sold their collections through local stores and retail chains. Entering online sales for the first time, they turned to us for assistance with their online presence. In addition to website development, they needed guidance in defining their target audience and selecting the right ecommerce platform.
That’s why our team began with in-depth research on the client's audience to understand their needs, preferences, and buying behavior. This groundwork allowed us to create a new site designed to:
  1. Reflect the artistic and luxurious nature of the collections
  2. Build customer trust and create a frictionless user journey
  3. Implement features that support personalization and drive conversions
  4. Align the website look with the technical capabilities of the chosen ecommerce CMS
  5. Meet Google’s quality requirements, such as website speed and accessibility, which contributes to higher rankings and overall store performance

The Solution

Choosing the optimal ecommerce platform

At the first stage, we analyzed the client's business needs and requirements to select the most suitable CMS for their website development.

The key factors that guided our decision were:

Product focus

The client planned to sell ready-made jewelry pieces with relatively simple customization options. Therefore, the client's new website required robust catalog management capabilities, checkout, and marketing tools, without extensive custom development.

Ease of management

The client needed full control via an intuitive admin panel, with minimal reliance on a technical team for ongoing updates, security, or performance monitoring.

Recommendation: Considering these requirements, we selected Shopify. Even on the basic plan, it provides all essential ecommerce features right out of the box. It also offers responsive support to quickly resolve technical issues.

User research

The Whidegroup team conducted in-depth research on the target audience. Leveraging these insights and our experience in jewelry ecommerce, we created a detailed buyer persona and a user flow map that accurately reflected real customer behavior.

We then designed the website navigation and product categorization to align with both the identified user paths and the structural logic of the Shopify platform, including:

  • Limited 3 levels depth of built-in menu
  • Specifics of faceted filters (predefined filters order, no visual filters by default etc.)
  • Checkout flow restrictions
  • Frontend display of integrated apps and features

Creating a conversion-focused website structure

Based on user research, we also identified the main barriers that prevent customers from buying jewelry online and developed the solutions to address them.

Finally, our jewelry store UX design incorporated the following features to enhance usability, personalization, and conversion rates:

  • Intuitive navigation with Shop the Look and Shop by Occasion options
  • Advanced product filtering on collection pages
  • Jewelry customization options on product pages

  • Gift wrapping selection for each product
  • Delivery tracking with real-time order status updates
  • Subscription form for discounts and new collection announcements
  • Discount codes for the next purchase displayed after checkout

Beyond the out-of-the-box Shopify functionality, these features required the integration of Shop the Look and Gift Wrapping modules from the Shopify App Store.

Optimization for Google requirements

Even the best jewelry website design must meet Google’s core standards to compete for top search positions. To ensure this, our performance optimization specialists audited the initial prototype and provided recommendations for website enhancement. The development team then implemented several adjustments based on these proposals.

  1. Hero banner. We replaced the homepage hero slider with a static banner to streamline load time and focus user attention.
  2. Product and categories structure. We reduced the number of product categories in the Occasions block and limited the number of products displayed per category for navigation and performance improvement.
  3. Accessibility. We refined visual contrast across the interface by adjusting typography, background patterns, and accent colors. This allows us to elevate readability and visual balance. Additionally, we integrated an accessibility and ADA compliance app that automatically remediates any accessibility issues that may appear in the future.

These updates enhanced page speed, usability, and accessibility – main factors for higher Google rankings and improved organic visibility.

The Result

This concept luxury ecommerce website design was developed as a demo Shopify store that highlights:
  • Optimized structure and navigation based on real user behavior
  • A conversion-focused design aligned with Shopify’s capabilities
  • Integrated features that meet the client’s business requirements
  • Fast-loading and accessible storefront compliant with Google’s performance standards
Together, these elements deliver a seamless shopping experience that reflects the brand’s luxury positioning and drives conversions.
The entire project, from the discovery call to the store launch, was completed in just three weeks, including:
  • 2 weeks for marketing research and design creation
  • 1 week for development, app integration, final adjustments, and deployment
